Some people want their jewellery or gift personalising to give it a special and unique touch. Guest and Philips can engrave items with names, special dates, messages or designs that mean something to you and the recipient. If you have something unique in mind get in touch and we will see what we can do. Our engraving service is ideal for Anniversaries and Awards, Birthdays, Christenings, Graduation, Presentations and Weddings,.
We can hand engrave items or use more modern computerised methods to produce highly original designs and styles.
Hand engraving - as the name implies is completed entirely by hand. It provides a long lasting finish as the cut is often deeper than with machine engraving. This can mean that the engraving has better durability ideal for jewellery which is worn frequently and for other items where more detail is required.
Hand engraving due to the skill and labour involved is more expensive than machine engraving therefore a full quote can be provided before any work is carried out.
Machine Engraving - at Guest and Philips we also offer machine engraving. We can engrave a wide range of items including bracelets, cuff links, gift items, rings, tankards, watches and even personal music (MP3) players. We can also engrave the inside of wedding rings with your message. We have a wide choice of typefaces, you simply choose the one you like and how you want it applied. Prices depend on the item and the amount of engraving required.
For further information on our engraving service please visit any of our shops or contact us by email or telephone

We buy unwanted jewellery made from gold, silver and platinum and offer very competitive prices. If you are wondering what to do with jewellery and other precious metal items you no longer want then just bring them in to one of our shops. We will give you a price for them based on current gold, silver and platinum prices.
Quotes are usually based on an items metal value. On some occasions they may have more value as a finished piece. We can advise you on this when we see the items. Valuations can normally be given straight away, however in some cases we may need to keep items for a few days to get a more accurate figure. During this period they are kept secure and are fully insured.
WARNING... with many internet and televised gold services items are sent in the post and a valuation is given by return. Often prices paid are below the market rate and it can be difficult to get goods returned. At Guest & Philips you get a true valuation, at the best rates at the time. Most importantly we can hand you your items straight back.

From time to time you may want to have your precious jewellery and other possessions valued. This can be for insurance purposes, probate reasons or simply to find out what your valuables are currently worth. Determining the value of a piece of jewellery, a watch or an article of silverware requires a great deal of skill and experience. Whilst replacement value is often used by insurers as a measure for general household goods, most companies will want more details on high value items such as jewellery
We can arrange a professional and independent valuation by our experts, who have an unrivalled level of expertise and are NAG Registered (National Association of Goldsmiths). They have valuation experience that ranges from contemporary through to antique pieces. Using their skill and detailed knowledge our experts will give you a detailed description, including a report and a written valuation. For this reason we may need to keep items for a short period of time. Whilst they are in our possession they are kept secure and are fully insured.
We charge a fixed price for valuations based on price. This means we have no vested interest in the piece or its replacement value and promise you an unbiased opinion every time. Our prices are 1.5% of total value up to £5000 and 1% thereafter. All probate valuation work is charged at a flat 2% of value. There is a minimum fee of £10 on all valuations.
Losing or damaging a precious piece of jewellery can be distressing. You should always ensure that your jewellery is adequately insured and inform your insurer of its value. An independent valuation will give you some reassurance that you have taken precautions to protect against monetary loss. It will also give you proof of ownership in any future transactions or dealings. Insurance claims involving items that are covered by a valuation are usually more straightforward and likely to result in a quicker and much more satisfactory outcome for you.
