Topaz, the birthstone for November

Topaz, the birthstone for November, derives its name from the greek word Topazos meaning 'precious stone'. Brazilian Topaz or True Topaz is the name applied to the Bright Honey Yellow colours to deep golden browns. Topaz can also be found in colourless varieties as well as greys, greens and uncommonly natural pinks.

The less desirable colours of Topaz are often heat treated to create more appealing Blues and Pinks. Topaz is found in a variety of countries including the United States, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Afganistan as well as closer to home including Germany, Norway and Italy. Topaz is believed to give its wearer courage, wisdom and mental clarity.
